Stroke Support at Home

What is a stroke?

A stroke occurs when a ruptured blood vessel or a blood clot restricts the flow of blood to the brain. Each person will be affected differently depending upon the location and extent of damage to the brain cells. Its impact can vary greatly from person to person, ranging from brief and mild to severe and enduring challenges that may require ongoing assistance.

How we can help

Following a stroke, rehabilitation is crucial for recovery. At Seniors Helping Seniors – Tonbridge & Malling and Sevenoaks, we offer a range of support services tailored to assist our clients in their journey towards recovery.

  • Emotional Support: Our compassionate carers provide personalised companionship, offering a listening ear and comforting presence to help navigate feelings of grief, loss, confusion, and fear.
  • Mobility Support: We assist with safe movement around the home, including walking, transferring between chairs or bed, and using assistive devices.
  • Practical Support: We help with daily tasks such as shopping, cooking, and laundry to ease the transition back to daily life.
  • Communication Support: Our carers implement therapy techniques recommended by speech therapists, providing updates on progress and facilitating practice sessions.
  • Administrative and Technology Support: We assist with paperwork and technology, easing the burden on families and facilitating access to medical appointments and care assessments.
  • Transportation Support: Our service ensures safe and stress-free transportation to health check appointments, allowing clients to focus on their recovery journey.

Organising stroke care

At Seniors Helping Seniors, our values of love, care, giving, and compassion guide every aspect of our support for stroke recovery:

  • Initial Assessment: We begin with an initial phone call to understand the experiences and requirements of our elderly clients, gathering essential details to schedule a home visit.
  • Family Involvement: During home visits, we involve family members, friends, and advocates in discussions about the caregiver’s role. Together, we establish goals for support and carefully match seniors with seniors to ensure compatibility and comfort.
  • Tailored Support: Drawing from their own life experiences, our carers tailor their support to meet the unique needs of each client, fostering a sense of familiarity and understanding.
  • Continuous Review: We regularly review care plans and adapt to changing needs, ensuring that our support remains responsive and effective
